Operation Seabird aims to protect animals living on the coast.
It originally developed around the Flamborough Head European Marine Site (EMS) in Yorkshire because of the disturbance to animals caused by activities such as boating, fishing and jet skiing. Marine wildlife was being disturbed and causing unsuccessful breeding seasons. Operation Seabird raises awareness and provides guidance about how simple changes in our behaviour could reduce disturbance to wildlife. The operation is based on activities along the Yorkshire coast, which has now been adapted for different regions such as the South Wales Coastline, species and types of disturbance. Objectivesto protect important marine and coastal habitats and wildlife, and raise awareness of environmental issues to combine the resources of police forces, local authorities, the RSPCA, the RSPB to form a network providing local knowledge and enforcement powers to educate people and businesses on ways to avoid wildlife disturbance to promote and encourage the recording and reporting of disturbance incidents Reporting Incidents;-call 101 if you have a hearing or speech impairment, use our textphone service 18000 online at Natural Resources Wales
