Suspicious Individual

Good afternoon,

There has recently been an incident in the Cwmrhydyceirw area on the 3rd June 2025, whereby a male has knocked doors saying he was from a charity called Surfability UK. This charity is an adaptive surfing school that allows people with additional learning needs and disabilities to enjoy surfing and all its benefits.

This individual was wearing a high visibility vest, carrying ID portraying to be from the charity. During the conversation he took phone number and email address but then tried asking for bank details. This is when he was challenged and then left the area. Surfability UK have been contacted and confirmed that they had nobody in that area and would certainly not ask for bank details at the door.

If you experience any of the below, then this is usually a sign that they are not who they say they are:

-  Avoids showing ID or gives vague answers.

- Tries to rush or pressure you.

- Requests donations in cash only or insist on taking details there and then.

- Doesn't know basic information about the charity they are representing.

The local Neighbourhood Policing team are aware and will be keeping an eye in the community but should the male attempt this in our village please consider the following:

- Check that the charity is registered. This can be checked on the Charity Commission Website

- Is the fundraiser wearing ID and branded clothing and can provide proof of permission to fundraise

- Contact the Charity and confirm that they are in the area.

- Ask for a leaflet or website so that you can donate at a later date

Please remain vigilant, if you suspect that they are not legitimate then please contact Police.

Regards,

PCSO 55717 Grey
