A South Wales Police Section 59 warning (Police Reform Act 2002) is issued when a vehicle is used in a manner causing alarm, distress, or annoyance, such as anti-social driving or riding on public land. The warning lasts for 12 months, placing a marker on both the driver and the vehicle. If the behaviour is repeated, police can seize the vehicle.

Key Aspects of a Section 59 Warning:

Issuance: Issued by a constable in uniform when they have reasonable grounds to believe a vehicle is being driven carelessly, inconsiderately, or off-road.

Impact: If the driver or vehicle is caught again within 12 months, the vehicle can be immediately seized.

Costs: If seized, the owner must pay recovery and storage fees to retrieve the vehicle.

Types of Incidents: Includes erratic driving, illegal use of e-scooters, and noise/nuisance in car parks.
