Positive Action
Hello Residents,
Fairwater Neighbourhood Policing team have been working hard in the areas of Creigiau, Pentyrch and Radyr after concerns were raised that rogue traders have been operating in the area recently. These traders offer work for what is believed to be a reasonable price but once agreed, variety of tactics are used to pressurise residents into buying something or additional services that they do not want or need. These tactics can range from halting work until further money is paid or doing un-necessary work that has not been agreed and then demanding large amounts of money for the work to be rectified and completed.
On 5th March 2026, Fairwater Neighbourhood Policing team and National Trading standards carried out a joint operation in the areas, checking-in on local residents and their properties. During the operation, PCSO's identified a property where roof repairs were being carried out under questionable circumstances for a substantial cost. Officers spoke with the resident and Trading Standards took immediate action against the ‘business’ ceasing all work. This intervention ultimately prevented the resident having to pay £13’000 - and potentially more. Following routine Police checks, it was identified that three of the persons working at the property were wanted by the Home Office and were subsequently arrested.
We would like to thank you for your help, it is only by the police and the public working together that we can prevent and detect crime.
