Neighbourhood policing is at the heart of our approach to keeping South Wales safe. Our PCSOs and officers are proud to be integral parts of the communities they serve.

We want to ensure our neighbourhood policing is as efficient and effective as it can be, and our aim is to be the best in the country at understanding and responding to the needs and priorities of each individual community. Your local neighbourhood policing team is made up of officers and PCSOs based in your area who are both visible and accessible.

Fundamental to our model of neighbourhood policing is engaging with our communities: connecting with individuals, organisations, businesses, schools, workplaces and others; working to understand, respond to, and tackle your concerns and priorities; and putting measures in place to prevent issues from escalating – or from occurring in the first place.

By working together and focusing on early intervention, prevention and problem solving, we can find long-term solutions to local problems.

Off Road Bikes

Issued 08 September 2025

More than 60 illegal e-bikes and e-scooters have been seized in one day across #Cardiff and #Barry making the streets safer.
Among them was a modified mountain bike capable of reaching 90 miles per hour – the fastest ever that has been seized in a joint operation between South Wales Police and Cardiff Council
This bike was one of 11 seized in #Ely and #Fairwater

In total 62 illegal mechanically propelled vehicles (MPVs) also known as illegal e-bikes and scooters were seized.
They will now be crushed and recycled.

Inspector Tim Ursell Neighbourhood Manager for Fairwater/Canton & Ely said: “Unlawful use of e-bikes and e-scooters is not only illegal but also puts pedestrians and road users at serious risk.
“The impact of anti-social e-bike riders on the communities is regularly raised as a concern.
“Generally, the people we stop are oblivious to the law. They are typically delivery drivers, commuters looking for cheap travel or young people who see it as a trend.
“We urge the public to please understand the law and make safe, legal choices.

This operation follows a successful summer operation which resulted in 135 MPVs being seized.

Retail crime and shoplifting

Issued 01 September 2025

Officers have worked closely with shops in the area and will continue to do so.
NPT are conducting regular patrols on Merthyr Road and surrounding areas. Two shoplifters have been caught in the act over the recent months and a number of others have been identified through CCTV and put them before the Courts.

One prolific shoplifter has been issued a Community Protection Warning notice and can no longer attend Merthyr Road, Tesco Extra Park Road or enter any CO OP`s across Cardiff due to persistently targeting these shops and causing staff distress.

We are in the process of working with shops to introduce STORENET radio systems which will allow the shops and NPT to be in regular contact. We hopeful these will be introduced before the Christmas period
